Android 4.4 KitKat is almost here, at least for Nexus owners. For the rest of the Android world, the wait is generally much longer. On Motorola’s part, they’ve already began teasing that they will soon unveil their KitKat plans. How about the other manufacturers, any word? Actually, HTC isn’t just hinting at its KitKat plans, they’ve pretty much fully disclosed them – at least for the HTC One.
In an interview with Engadget, HTC’s Jason Mackenzie revealed that they aren’t beating around the bush with Android 4.4 KitKat. The goal is to first push the update to the HTC One Google Play Edition within the next 15 days. After that, the unlocked and developer editions of the HTC One should see an update within 30 days. As for U.S. Carrier variants of the One? While delays can obviously happen, the goal is to push out the update to all carriers within 90 days or less.

That’s nothing short of amazing, at least if they are actually able to pull it off. To HTC’s credit, they have been extremely good about updates as of late. While they did run into a few snags with getting out Android 4.3, they still managed to stay fairly close to their promised deadlines.
You might notice that we’ve haven’t mentioned any other HTC handset. Unfortunately, things start to get a bit fuzzier here. Apparently HTC is still working on their rollout plans for devices like the HTC One Max and One Mini. Mackenzie says that they will issue a statement concerning the Android 4.4 upgrade for these devices in the near future.
As for the HTC One devices outside of the United States? While Jason Mackenzie only spoke on HTC America’s plans, if they can really get Android 4.4 KitKat on all U.S. carrier devices within 90 days, it seems likely that they should be able to push things out at a similar rate globally – though keep in mind that’s yet to be confirmed.
We applaud HTC for being so upfront with their KitKat plans, now here’s to hoping that everything goes according to plan. What do you think of HTC and they way they’ve recently been handling their devices, impressed or not?
